Jingle Bells

Well Christmas has come and gone already within a matter of 24 hours (imagine that). I worked on Christmas at the firehouse, but the family got up extremely early to open gifts. I've got to pick up a new hobby now carving wood seeing as I recieved a wood carving set. It should be fun to design pictures in wood and we should see how well this actually goes. As a Christmas gift for my mom I made a bird feeder for their land. It has a face on the front of it. I think it looks like an angry face, but my mom thinks it looks like a dog face. You make the decision after I post some pictures up. I also got a bench top drill press. It's nice. I needed on so that I can start my big project for the Woodworking Show in Fredricksburg,Va. It is for March 12-14. Hope everyone had an excellent Christmas.

Bundle up

It's officially cold. Last night I had fire department training and the water was freezing on the ground before we had left. While at the station I wandered around the Lumber Jocks website and found some great projects I'm thinking about trying out. Hopefully they will be up on the site soon.

Just a quick update. I've made yet again another chair. It will be going outside and attempted to be sold. I've also sold a picture frame made out of purple heart. It turned out better then my first one.

Catch up

I haven't wrote in here for a while, but that doesn't mean I haven't been busy working on stuff in the shop. I got my first picture frame done, completely, and it is displayed in my room. I have also made two birdhouses that are also done and at a nursery trying to get sold. All these are posted in my photos section. I have also got plans to make a coffee table called "Game Night". More details to come in the future.

A place to put a cup (or whatever else you want)

I've finally got out to the shop and started some creations. I figure I need to build a table to go along with my Adirondack chair. I've started on the...excuse me, I've finished making the top and now i've got to construct the bottom. It is going to consist of many (6) curves which should be fun to make. I wish i had a bandsaw to do the curves on instead of just using a jig saw. I'm sure the outcome would look a lot better. I'm also going to be staining  my towel rack within the next couple of days so there will be new pictures of that up. Maybe I will try to sell it depending on the outcome with the stain. Who knows.

I'M BACK

Well I'm finally back after two weeks of vacation. Actually it was 1 week vacation and 1 week of laziness/catch up. I'm ready to start creating and making some more stuff. I had a good time is Disney World with my daughters. They got to meet a bunch of characters and it made me happy everytime I got to see them smile. I've got some things I want to mess with this coming week and also clean up the shop. Holloween is soon.

Busy

Oh my. it has been very busy here at the house. Not much time for the shop. I sold two chairs the other day. they turned out very nice. They were painted a dark blue. I had made them a little bit wider then my own adirondack chair and they sit very nice. i've been planning for a trip and trying to get "household" things done. I will be hard at it in the shop after the trip. Plans to be done- 2 cabinet doors, a birdhouse/feeder and flower pot combo, a bookshelf, bench, and a wedding card holder.

I started a customers chairs the other day. They wanted the exact same style as i had originally made. They are moving right along. I did get held up in the building process just a little, I still have one back to put together. I have adjusted the width a little to make it a little more roomy. I will put some progress pictures up soon.

Glued up rack

I have finally completed the bathroom towel (hand towel that is) rack. It has two shelves and two bars. The shelves and back are made out of birch and the sides and bars are out of oak. I also got to play with the router a little bit and decided to have the sides and front routed with a 1/4" roundover bit. It look very nice although the bit did burn the wood a little, but that went away with some sandpaper. Pictures will be posted sometime tonight or wednesday.

Bathroom Shelf/Spice rack

I started a project two weeks back that was out of  Wood Magzine and suppose to be a bathroom shelf. It was going to be roughly 48" long. Now I have taken that length and shortened it down to 21" to accomodate for a wall in my bathroom. It also looks like it could be used to hold spices and two towels. Photos will be up soon of it.  It is made out of oak with the shelves out of birch. It will be getting a natural stain just to POP out the grain. I plan on sanding it today and possibly putting it together tomorrow.
